Social Events

Although the Harley Wood Winter School is indeed a school, and you are expected to learn a few things, it is also a great opportunity to network, both with the academics and with other students. After all, when the thesis is done and it's time to get a real job, knowing the right people is just as important as having done the right research.

Trivia Night - Thursday

After registration on Thursday, we're going to hold a trivia night. There'll be pizza, nachos, and garlic bread, a two-hour bar tab (two beers, house wine and soft drinks), prizes for the winning team and lots of really hard questions to answer! Don't worry if your general knowledge is lacking, we'll happily give half marks for witty responses.

Trivia questions are going to be on the themes: astronomy, arts, science, sport, entertainment, geography, and IT. So be sure to brush up on these topics if you so desire it.

Conference Dinner - Friday

The conference dinner will be held on Friday Night at Potters. The menu will be made available closer to the conference dates.

If you have any special dietary needs please let us know on the registration form, and the LOC will ensure that the restaurant knows to prepare you something special.

Observing Nights - every night!

On each night of the conference (weather dependent) Lesa and Andrew from the organising committee are planing to host star gazing somewhere on the Potters grounds (more information to follow later). If you live in the Sydney area and have your own telescope you're more than welcome to bring it and help out, or you can just join in and enjoy being at a darker sky site than you may be used to.

Karaoke - Saturday

On Saturday nights the Potters Hotel hosts karaoke, so for those seeking something to do on their final night away, or a chance to see the LOC embarrassing themselves in public, this is the activity for you.

Brewery Tour - Sunday

Sunday morning at 10am Potters is hosting a brewery tour. The cost is $10, to be paid on the day, and the tour should finish before 11am, for those seeking to catch the coach back to Macquarie University in time to check in at your hotel before the ASA registration sessions.
